Wollongong City Centre sees residential boom.
The Wollongong skyline is changing rapidly with construction sites spread throughout the city. With the residential population of Wollongong's City Centre set to increase by 150% over the next 2 - 3 years, a number of large scale residential and commercial premises are under construction to meet the changing demands of the city.
The recently completed 14 story tower ‘Oxford on Crown’ is one example, with the Lord Mayor Cr Gordon Bradbury OAM officially opening the complex in July 2016. Oxford on Crown is home to 135 modern apartments and about 4,000sqm of retail and office space.
The increase in demand for inner city living has been fuelled by the rapid urbanisation of the City Centre over the past 24 months. We have seen more than 60 small bars, restaurants, cafes and galleries open in that period. In conjunction with recent jobs growth, the university, proximity to the beach and the completion of Wollongong Central, the CBD is providing an attractive urban lifestyle.
