Advantage Wollongong Update - Winter
Advantage Wollongong, a partnership between NSW Department of Industry, the University of Wollongong and Wollongong City Council assists businesses looking to invest in Wollongong. Advantage Wollongong has been busy over the last few months, attending a number of exciting events to promote Wollongong.
The last quarter saw Advantage Wollongong sponsor the World Business Forum at The Star in Sydney, which featured guest speaker Sir Richard Branson. As part of the forum Advantage Wollongong also hosted an exclusive lunch at Balla, which offered attendees a private Q&A with John Mattone, the world’s #1 corporate culture, culture transformation and leadership authority.
Advantage Wollongong, together with i3net, ran a local Defence Industry Forum, as part of a strategy to help facilitate Wollongong businesses compete for some of the $195 billion the Federal Government is looking to spend on defence in the next decade.
The NSW Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy, the Hon. Anthony Roberts MP visited the University of Wollongong on 26 July to announce several Illawarra based businesses would be showcased at a national defence expo later this year.
“The Illawarra is critical; it has the natural resources, it has the skilled workforce and it has those small and medium enterprises that are fluid enough to be very successful into the future of defence,” Mr Roberts said. “These are things that we need to showcase, we need to get them out there and they will bring jobs, opportunity and money into the region.”
Advantage Wollongong, along with Global Defence Solutions and ship repair and maintenance specialist Phoenix Australasia from Unanderra will be on show at the upcoming Land Forces 2016 expo in Adelaide from 6‑8 September.
The i3net (Illawarra Innovative Industry Network) will host its 5th Industry Showcase on 7-8 September 2016. The Showcase will promote the capability of Industry in our region to a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, mining, rail, defence and infrastructure.
